Karate South Africa hosted their first Championship for 2025 on 22-23 February 2025 in Secunda.

Event Overview:

This past weekend, Secunda buzzed with excitement as it hosted the thrilling KSA U/21, Seniors, Veterans/Masters National Championship 2025, a convergence of talent and sporting excellence. With a vibrant atmosphere and an enthusiastic crowd, the event showcased South Africa’s finest karate talent. The event was hosted by the President of Mpumalanga Karate, Jannie Degenaar.

Highlights:

  • Mrs Leah Mabuza: The MEC of Culture, Sports and Recreation, honoured KSA with her presence. She addressed the crowd and athletes emphasising the significance of Karate and sport.
  • The Bulletin: Secunda’s trusted news source interviewed Brando Pillay, the technical convener of Karate South Africa, about the event and streamed parts of it live on Facebook for its followers. You may view the interview and action here.
  • Organisation: The feedback from participants and spectators has been overwhelmingly positive. Many have remarked on the excellent organisation, the friendly atmosphere, and the professional conduct of our staff. This is a testament to all of your hard work and commitment.
  • Competition:

      • Throughout the tournament athletes consistently upheld the values of courtesy and respect.
  • Supportive Environment
    • Athletes fostered an environment of encouragement, frequently cheering for one another and showing genuine appreciation for superior techniques and performances, regardless of the competitor’s Province.
  • Karate Standard
    • Throughout the event the high standard of karate kept competitors and spectators on the edge of their seats. Karateka from all over South Africa had to battle it out in disciplines: Kata, Kumite, Team Kata and Team Kumite.
  • Judging
    • Overall, the judging at the Championship was conducted with professionalism and integrity, ensuring a transparent and equitable competition.
  • Participation: Competitors representing a diverse range of talents and backgrounds from 6 provinces were in attendance. The competitors were highly engaging and maintained a healthy competitive spirit. Competitors in attendance represented: Western Cape, Gauteng, Free State, Kwazulu Natal, Mpumalanga and Eastern Cape.

Conclusion:

The event was a resounding success, thanks to meticulous planning, committed volunteers, and passionate participants. It not only highlighted the athletic prowess of South Africa, but also underscored the importance of sports uniting communities. The event set a new benchmark for future karate competitions in the country and left attendees eagerly anticipating next one.
